Balama mine 11.25MWp solar and 8.5MW/MWh BESS integration studies

Cliff & Tony Energy performed the steady state and dynamic modelling study for the Balama mine network with the integration of the 11,25MWp solar PV plant and an 8.5MW/MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

The mine located in Mozambique operates in an off-grid setup supplied by diesel generators. The mine intended to integrate the hybrid (solar and battery energy) energy solution to increase its generation capacity and to allow some of the expensive diesel generators to be taken out of service. Our services included

    • Mine's network development
    • Load flow studies
    • Harmonic studies
    • Motor starting studies
    • Fault ride-through studies
    • Frequency response studies
    • Effect of reduced inertia and fault level on motor starting, fault ride through, frequency

The project reached financial close and solution is being implemented.
